How did you make the transition from a “working mom” to a “stay at home mom”?
Full of Id asked:
Did you have a financial plan? Did you take a leap of faith and hope that all would be ok?
All my friends that stay home say, “It just works out.” But I can’t imagine how taking away 45% of our monthly income will just work out. I’d love to hear other’s experience with YOUR transition.

It was basically a leap of faith. In a few daycares in my area, there have been shaken baby syndrome cases and child care workers drugging children and such, so i decided I’d rather have little money and a healthy baby, vs. lots of money and a sick child who was hurt. That’s what made me decide to leave my job and become a full time mom.
Only you can make out your financial plan. For instance, can you and your hubby share a car? What other “frills” can be cut from your budget? Only you and your husband know that…
Perhaps you should document every single cent that spent in your home for a month. Once you see where it’s going, you can better decide how to “trim the fat” for you to be able to stay home.
Best of luck to you!
We always knew that I was going to spend some time away from work so we purchased a duplex with our tax return and rented it out while I wasn’t working to supplement the loss of income. For 4 years we would purchase a piece of property with our tax return. Now we have been able to turn it into another business. My husband also took a part-time job for a little while. I also stayed active/fresh by taking classes and working sporadically so that when they became school-aged I wouldn’t have a hard time re-entering the workforce. Now that all of my boys are in school I work at night (7 days on, 7 days off). This way I am home during the day and still get to work outside of the home.
When I decided to stay home with my first, I worked alot of overtime during my pregnancy, and I paid off my husband’s car to free up that money. Then we started making cuts. We knew it was worth it, because our children would be in a safe
environment. For the first few months after she was born we worked opposite schedules to build up a large savings just in case. I’ve enjoyed my time with them, and we don’t really notice the money I’m not making.
You will be surprised. I made a very good income before I decided to stay home we talked about it and didn’t think it would work when I got pregnant with my second I was admit about not going back. I started my Mary Kay business 3 years ago only work part time alongside my full time job and my family. Now that I am home It gives me time outside to socialize with adult and still make some contribution to the household income.
You don’t realize how much more you spend and how much time cost. Stay home saved child care clothing eating out though not often adds up. Being home I cook most meals and don’t go out to lunch I am saving at on on gas I had a long commute. You have more time to plan cut coupons and get the best deals plus I don’t spend frivolous now that i am home.
