What is the best type of career to have, when you want to be a stay at home mom first, and then work?

I’ve waited tables, did the whole at home business (was a “Body Shop” representative), data entry, and even tried to sell on Ebay. I do have a four year degree but do not have a lot of work history. I would love to become and esthetician, but am actually quite nervous to do something like this. Since I wouln’t be utilizing my four year degree. What should I do? Go with what makes sense or what I really want to do??

    Nobody says you have to use your degree. If you want to take up esthetics, then do it! The skills you learned during your degree program (team work, organizational skills, report writing, study and math skills, etc.) will help you complete the esthetician course and also help you in the workplace.

    Because you have a degree, you clearly understand the importance of education, so this will help you select a good esthetician program. You’re lucky because you already know what a professional instructor and program looks like- so you won’t be suckered into any unreputable schools.

    Until you get your esthetician’s license, the best thing to do right now is network. Get out there and meet other mothers. Build your social contact list. This way, when you get your license and can start practicing, you’ll have lots of potential customers. Maybe you could even design some special treatments “just-for-moms”!

    Go with what you really want to do. This life is not a rehearsal. This is it! That’s great you have a degree. But how many people do you know actually utilize a degree that they got after 4 years of college? Don’t worry about what you don’t have as far as experience. You have the most important thing and that is passion to be an aesthetician! Drive and motivation will get where you want to be.
